What’s the purpose of drug free zones? Safety and security in public spaces. *
ICE’s enforcement activities have been a traumatizing assault on the safety and security of our nation. It has taken a toll on children, families and whole communities ** Educators and experts also report immigration raids are “inflicting a terrible toll on children’s mental health and education”. **
The deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti are extreme examples of the brutality and potential lawlessness of ICE agents.
Despite the harms done to innocent children, families, businesses and whole communities who are traumatized by the “enforcement” efforts of ICE, the federal government has poured on the gas at times rather than putting on the brakes.
The impact on our communities, the related disregard displayed by those in power and the ways in which the Supremacy Clause has been utilized to blockade local authorities from investigating and prosecuting these potential crimes have traumatized our nation.
We need ICE Free Zones to protect our communities, especially our children!
Whether those being detained are criminals or not, it is not justifiable to engage in enforcement efforts which harm innocent bystanders and traumatize communities.
Drug-Free Zones typically include areas within 1000ft of the following: schools & daycares (including colleges), churches & places of worship, public parks, public transportation, youth & recreation centers, libraries, and movie theaters. ***
We propose these same zones be safe from ICE enforcement activities and that hospitals, malls, grocery stores, restaurants and retail establishments be added to the list.
